Aliaksandr Frantskievich arrested for 12 days

The former political prisoner was put in jail for participating in the Stop-Tax action.

The decision was taken by the judge Viktoryja Shabunia. Aliaksandr Frantskievich’s trial took place today in the court of Minsk’s Central district, according to a charter97.org web-site’s reporter.

The activist was detained together with other participants of the actions Stop-Tax, which took place in the center of the Belarusian capital on Friday evening. He spent the weekend in the jail in Akrescina Street.

Thus, Aliaksandr Frantskievich, just like an activist of the European Belarus civic campaign Maksim Viniarski, will spent the New Year’s behind bars.

The actions Stop-Tax against the introduction of a duty on cars took place on 20 December in many cities of Belarus. In Minsk it was the largest in numbers. Car drivers of the capital blocked the traffic in Niezalezhnasci Avenue for almost an hour. The action was supported by hundreds of pedestrians.

Aliaksandr Frantskievich was released on 3 September. In May 2011 he was sentenced to 3 years in prison on a notorious “anarchist case”. Just like the other representatives of the anarchist movement Ihar Alijenivich and Mikalaj Dziadok Frantskievich was charged with organizing a series of arsons of administrative buildings. Despite the guilt was not proven and the insignificance of the damage claimed the activists were sentenced to three to seven years imprisonment.
