Inmate of detention centre in Akrestin Street cuts his wrists
13:50, — Events
Andrei Ch., an inmate of the detention centre in Akrestin Street, slit his wrists demanding access to medical care.
Platform association informs that the reason for that radical step was refusal of the jail staff to give painkillers to Andrei Ch., who repeatedly complained of headaches.
Andrei Ch. demanded to provide medical help for several hours, but prison officers ignored his complaints. Unable to tolerate a headache, the inmate finally cut his wrists.
Medical officers arrived and bandaged his wrists noting there was no need to call an ambulance.
Andrei Ch. was transferred to another cell after the incident.
It's worth noting that complaints about refusals to provide medical treatment in the detention centre in Akrestin Street are rather frequent. The fact that inmates are ready for extreme measures means that prosecution agencies should pay close attention to violations of confinement conditions in the detention centre.
