MAZ to work four days a week?

An order on cutting the working week has appeared  on the plant.

However, it's unknown whether it will come into force, Salidarnast reports.

The information that the Belarusian Automobile Plant (MAZ) will have to cut the working week has appeared recently. The MAZ management names problems with sales in foreign markets among the reasons. In simple words, the plant's storage facilities are full of unsold vehicles.

The plant faced a similar situation last year, when the first vehicles were sold to Russia, MAZ's main market, only in February.

The problem seems to repeat. MAZ worker Alyaksandr Ruleu says that working weeks will be cut.

“The new order gave to understand that the plant will have four-day working weeks in March,” he says. The document notes that the plant will not work on Fridays on 15, 22 and 29 March.

The worker says the situation may become clear later.

“Perhaps they will just inform us next week, before the first non-working Friday,” Ruleu says.

The plant declined to comment on the situation to the website charter97.org.
