Hrodnology authors keep being driven out of university

A historian Andrei Charniakevich did not manage to find employment in Hrodna and has gone abroad looking for a job.

We would remind that yesterday it became known that the historian was fired according to a personal instruction of the chairman of the region’s executive committee Siamion Shapira.

They do not prolong the contract with another author  of the book Hrodnology Viachaslau Shved, Radio Svaboda reports.

Shved works as the head of the department of Belarusian culture and regional tourism. His contract expires on 26 March. Shved was officially notified that his contract for the position of the head of the department will not be prolonged. But a new one for a professor’s position will be signed if he passes the respective competition.

The remaining authors of Hrodnology – Aliaksandr Hostsieu, Aliaksandr Dabryjan, Vital Karnialuk, Sviatlana Marozava – keep working at their positions.

We would remind that the textbook Hrodnology was written by well-known historians and local history experts from Hrodna. After a while they started calling the authors for talks with the officials from the rector’s office and KGB.
