Court rejected trade union activist’s claim to be re-hired

Polatsk’s court kept in force the decision of the management of Polatsk Glass Fiber plant on the dismissal of the chairman of a primary organization of the Free Trade Union.

The last court’s proceeding on the case of the dismissal of Viktar Stukau, who worked as an operator at Polatsk Glass Fiber plant took place on 16 April, the polack.by web-site reports.

Despite obvious violations of labour legislation on the part of the employer, the judge Iryna Darotka recognized as legitimate the order to fire the employee.

The human rights activists, who were present at the proceedings, tell about the violations that took place in court.

During the previous proceeding the judge refused the lawyer of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Alena Jaskova the right to represent Viktar Stukau’s interests. The judge claimed that the process was taking too long and she had no time to file the documents for the trade union’s representative.

The Free Trade Union will appeal against the court’s decision to a higher court and will also submit a complaint against the judge Iryna Darotka to the Ministry of Justice.

Viktar Stukau took active part in protecting the rights of the workers of the plant. This was the reason for his getting fired at the beginning of the year.
