Slonim police question participants of Freedom Day celebration

The police of Slonim question local UCP activists brothers Siarhei and Andrei Bialko today.

They were summoned to a police station for taking part in the Freedom Day celebration. Both were questioned by major Vadzim Shchurski. The UCP activists refused to give written explanations, Viasna human rights centre reports.

Pensioner Mikalai Barysik was also summoned to a police station in connection with the Freedom Day celebration. He was questioned by major Ihar Klybik. Mikalai Barysik refused to give explanations noting that the Freedom Day celebration was his personal matter.

BPF party member Viktar Marchyk had a telephone call from the police inviting him to appear for a conversation. He has not gone to the police station yet.

Members of the Slonim association of democratic forces came to a conclusion that all participants of the Freedom Day celebration, who can be seen in the photos on the internet, were summoned to the police for questioning.

It should be reminded that the authorities of Slonim forbade to celebrate Freedom Day in the town. Nevertheless, democratic activists marked the anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic. The event was closely watched by police.
