The authorities are afraid of workers' strikes

Members of the free trade union in Baranavichi were refused to provide a hall to meet with disgruntled workers.

On April 24 an employee of the Baranavichy-based hotel “Haryzont-Tur” phoned local civil society activist Viktar Miaziak and reported that the administration would not provide the city office of the free trade union with premises requested by the Union earlier. The employee also said the hotel decided to terminate all relations with the trade union, without specifying any the reasons for this unexpected decision.

On April 18, the Free Trade Union activists arranged a meeting of the city residents with the chairman of the Belarusian trade union of radio-electronic industry (REP) and other sectors of the economy Henadz Fiadynich. This meeting was hosted by the “Haryzont-Tur” hotel. Those present at the meeting came to the conclusion that it was necessary to organize free legal advice to Baranavichy workers, so that people knew what to do when their labor rights were violated.

The first consultation should have take place on Thursday, April 25, at the conference hall of the hotel.
