Law enforcers in mufti beat up Charnobyl Way participant

A participant of Charnobyl Way Ihar Trukhanovich was beaten to the quick and detained.

A civic activist Iryna Smiajan-Siemianiuk, who witnessed the incident, reported about it to the charter97.org web-site

“This happened near the building 78 in Bahdanovicha street, behind the EL-Pomidoro restaurant. I saw that Ihar Trukhanovich, an activist of the anarchist movement, was being severely beaten by four people. He was bleeding on the ground. The threats that police will be called did not affect the beaters. Then a car came. Ihar Trukhanovich and a woman, who was also a manifestation participant and was nearby at the moment, were pushed into the car and taken to an unknown direction”, - she said.

Also journalists of Nasha Niva Iryna Arakhouskaja and Aksana Rudovich, who were filming the beating of Trukhanovich, were detained. They were taken to the Soviet district’s police department and released in an hour.

A traditional manifestation Charnobyl Way took place on 26th of April in Minsk. Despite that the authorities allowed the manifestation, famous Belarusian ecologists were detained several hours before the event. Arrests continued during the action too . In particular, several people were detained in the Balgalor square area.
