Repression on Granit plant to be discussed at ILO meeting

Dismissals of trade union from Granit plant will be discussed at the ILO European regional meeting.

European trade union leaders will discuss the facts of pressure on activists of free trade unions in Belarus. The meeting will be held in Oslo on April 8-11, Radio Racyja reports.

This information was received from the chairman of Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, Alyaksandr Yarashuk.

“I will take part in the meeting. The theme of the latest facts of violations of the trade union rights will be raised there. I already informed by colleagues from the International Labour Organisation and the trade union confederation asking them to support my proposal to discuss these issues at the meeting. The ILO Conference will be held in Geneva in June. This question will be raised there too,” he said.

According to Yarashuk, some serious steps in relation to the Belarusian authorities can be expected from the international trade union organisations and the International Labour Organisation in the nearest time. It is caused by significant restrictions of the rights of free trade unions in the country.

It should be reminded that about 600 workers of Granit plant left the official trade union last year due to inactivity of the trade union committee and low wages. The workers faced pressure from the plant authorities after they had applied to the independent trade union.
