Web-site of Viasna’s Mahilou office hacked

Unidentified people have hacked the web-site of the Mahilou’s branch office of the human rights center Viasna.

A publication has appeared on the web-site of the Mahilou’s branch office of the human rights center Viasna with a human rights activist Baryc Bukhel threatening an independent journalist Ales Burakou.

The human rights activist Baryc Bukhel claims that he did not write anything like that. The journalist Ales Burakou believes that it is the handiwork of special services, Radio Svaboda reports.

“When such publications appear, it testifies that independent journalists and human rights activists act in the right direction and these actions disturb the special services. It is not the first time that such an attempt has been taken in Mahilou to create such a provocative content. E-mails have been circulated for three months discrediting journalists and human rights activists. Such a wave of provocation will keep growing and this will last until 2015”, - Burakou says.

In Minsk’s office of Viasna they confirm the fact of the hack attack, however abstain from commenting so far. They claim that they are trying to figure out how the web-site has been hacked and who could have done that.

We would remind that hack attacks on oppositional and human rights web-sites are not rare in Belarus. Thus, the charter97.org web-site was hacked in December 2011. Special services then stole the passwords and destroyed part of the publications on the web-site. The web-site was repeatedly a target for DDoS-attacks and blockage.
