Police hush up UCP flag stealing case

A thief who stole a flag from the headquarters of the United Civil party has not been found so far.

Chiefs of the Savetski district police department think catching a thief among policemen is an impossible task.

It is all the more difficult because the thief stole a national white-red-white flag from the UCP, the party's press service reports.

“The identity of a person who stole your organisation's flag has not been established yet,” reads the official answer from Minsk's Savetski district police department delivered to UCP leader Anatol Liabedzka today.

It should be reminded that the white-red-white flag, which was hung out on the balcony of the party's office, disappeared on March 26. Upper floor neighbours say policemen from the Savetski district police department burst into their flat early in the morning and went to the balcony.

The letter signed by Hramola, an assistant of the acting chief of the department, reads: “The case on an administrative offence in relation to the United Civil Party over article 10.5 of the Code of Administrative Offences of Belarus (petty stealing) has been closed on the ground of paragraph 2 of part 1 of article 10.26 of the Procedure Code of Administrative Offences of Belarus due to failure to identify a person to be brought to administrative responsibility.”
