Lanskaja will not be let to Eurovision?

Swedish human rights activists demand to exclude Belarus from the European Broadcasting Union and not to let participate in Eurovision.

The chairman of Östgruppen Martin Uggla stated that compromises are not allowed in the fight for democracy, Radio Sweden reports.

Making a speech on Swedish television, he suggested to exclude Belarus’ state TV from the European Broadcasting Union, EBU.

Uggla refers to the value system, approved by the union and according to which all the EBU members must maintain the freedom of speech and pluralism, depending in no way on political interests.

The director of Swedish television Eva Hamilton stated the following in regards to the adoption of the EBU value platform: “the next step is to drive out all those, who should not be in here”.

Martin Uggla decided that the time came for the next step and demanded to exclude Belarusian state television from the union. He also called for not letting Belarusian participants to Eurovision festivals.

We would remind that the song competition Eurovision-2013 will take place in the Swedish city of Malmo. This year a singer Alona Lanskaja is going to represent Belarus with a song Solayoh. The singer took part in the national qualification for the international music festival last year and was even announced its winner. However, the results were later reconsidered and Litesound band went to Eurovision in Baku.
