Young Christian Democrats in court against Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice’s refusal to register the public association Young Christian Democrats will be appealed against In the Supreme Court of Belarus on 9 April.

The organization committee for the creation of the association reported that the Ministry of Justice gave three main reasons for refusing to register MChD: according to the Ministry of Justice, the founders allegedly provided invalid data about the places of their employment in the documents which allegedly meant that they were not present at the constituent assembly. In the list of those, who allegedly provided the wrong data, is the deputy chairman of MChD Volha Kavalkova, who was the secretary of the assembly, the human rights center Viasna reports.

The second reason for the refusal are the documents, requested by the Ministry of Justice in violation of the legislation and which MChD refused to submit, including the agreement with the landlord.

Finally, as they decided in the Ministry of Justice, the founders of MChD violated the law of the Republic of Belarus on spelling: particularly the paragraphs 33 and 63 on the spelling of capital letters and quotation marks in the name of the organization.

The court proceeding has started at 10 a.m.
