Poland's Deputy PM: The new pipeline through Belarus is PR project

Poland's Deputy PM and Minister of Economy Janusz Piechociński suggests the Yamal-Europe 2 gas pipeline project is nothing but a TV scoop.

In a comment to the TV channel tvn24, he evaluated construction of a gas pipeline "Yamal-Europe 2" as a TV-oriented initiative, not as a real project.

Nevertheless, the Minister did not confirm that Poland totally declined the project. According to him, the Polish government, as a good housewife, wants to put eggs in separate baskets. Therefore, Poland is planning to increase its own gas production, and will also monitor the effectiveness of the gas supply issues.

On Tuesday, President of Russian gas giant Gazprom Alexei Miller said that there was a legal basis for the construction of the pipeline Yamal-Europe 2 - an intergovernmental gas agreement between Poland and Russia made in 1993. This branch of the pipeline is supposed to pass through Belarus.
