Aliaksei Dzikavitski: Ban on satellite TV is blow to Belsat

Restrictions on mounting satellite TV systems is an example for the optimists who say about democratiston of the Belarusian regime.

Aliaksei Dzikavitski, the head of the news department at Belsat TV, spoke to charter97.org about the ban on satellite television for people living in apartment blocks.

“We saw similar restrictions in 2007. They just got tougher now. One will have to get permission of the authorities, prepare project documentation and find a firm specialising in mounting satellite dishes. We regard it as a blow to Belsat, because we are a satellite TV channel,” the journalist says.

He said it is a good example for some optimists who say about democratisation of the Belarusian regime.

“If everything is so good, why restrict access to free information? I regard it as a definitely negative step. Any restriction of access to the media by physical, technical or legislative means is a demonstration of what is called depriving society of an opportunity to have free access to different sources of information. It is a violation of constitutional rights of citizens,” Aliaksei Dzikavitski thinks.
