Viktar Ivashkevich: Lukashenka hides people's money in safe place

He uses such schemes that it is impossible to find accounts opened in the name of the Belarusian head of state.

Viktar Ivashkevich, a coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus, spoke to charter97.org about Lukashenka's statement “You'll never find a conspicuous gap between the rich and the poor in Belarus, or the property stolen from people.”

“Lukashenka has been clearing the field of competitors since 1995 from fighting against organised crime to opening criminal cases against rich Belarusians and expulsion them from the country. It led to the situation that Belarus has only one oligarch – Lukashenka. His wealth is not considered to be conspicuous, because it belongs allegedly to the president,” the politician thinks.

He is sure the money stolen from people cannot be found because Lukashenka hid it well.

”The Belarusian dictator said several times that one can take his money if it is found. But he uses such schemes to hide it that you won't find the accounts registered in the name of Aliaksandr Lukashenka. He used his contacts with Milosevic and Chavez and later with their successors,” the European Belarus campaign coordinator said.

He said that in contrast to Russia that have a few oligarchs and officials in contractual relations, we see a full merger in Belarus.

“Lukashenka is the head of state, the commander-in-chief, the chief of the security services, the main oligarch and tax officer. In this sense, Belarus is property of one oligarch and all Belarusians work for his company. Belarus was in fact turned from a state to Lukashenka's unique company,” Viktar Ivashkevich thinks.
