Lukashenka comes down on “brazen” construction companies

The Belarusian ruler severely criticised, as he said, “brazen construction companies” for a high level of corruption.

“This industry sector is highly corrupted,” Lukashenka said on Tuesday in Minsk at a meeting to discuss housing construction issues.

He stressed he would talk about the scale of corruption at the meeting, but recommended speakers to raise the question in their reports, Interfax news agency informs.

Lukashenka urged to analyse the work of design organisations and said he heard enough complaints in the area.

“They have become completely brazen. They put such figures in design projects that construction workers cannot steal so much and build a house,” Lukashenka said.

“I'd like to hear how we pay designers: as before, the higher the project cost, the higher the salary, or contrariwise?,” he said.

According to him, the construction industry has “more than enough unsettled questions and violations of the legislation”.

Lukashenka said he'd like to hear how his order to switch to European construction standards was being implemented.

He criticised construction companies for low labour productivity. “This is unacceptable that production of Belarusian construction workers is significantly lower than the average European level.”
