Sole traders postpone march against Customs Union

Minsk sole traders have postponed a protest march indefinitely.

Charter97.org has learnt it from Viachaslau Pilipuk, a member of the council of the public organisation Perspective.

“We had talks on the issue with the Belarusian authorities. Representatives of the authorities – the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Taxation and the State Standartisation Committee – promised that no checks would be carried out. The Ministry of Taxation promised to issue a guarantee document,” the sole trader said.

He stressed that activists decided to postpone the march indefinitely, but hold it before autumn.

“We made this decision only because the authorities finally began to take sole traders seriously and invite us to negotiate. If we achieve the results we want, we will don't need the march,” Viachaslau Pilipuk said.

On June 29, sole traders applied for a protest march against the Customs Union's technical regulations on July 15.
