Aliaksandr Mauchanau released

Political prisoner Aliaksandr Mauchanau has been released.

He left the correctional colony early in the morning before the wake-up signal, though, human rights activists say, prisoners in colony No. 14 near Barysua are usually released after 11:00.

Aliaksandr Mauchanau is at home now. Yulia Stsiapanava, an activist of the European Belarus campaign, told charter97.org about the release.

Journalists and human rights activists, among them former political prisoner Vasily Parfiankou and leader of small businessmen Aliaksandr Makayeu, were able to see the activist and talk to him only in Barysau.

Aliaksandr Mauchanau spoke to charter97.org about his plans for the nearest future.

”I studied in the correctional colony. I received a certificate of a machine operator. I am going to study and work. In any case, I will not give up my ideas and activity,” he said.

The political prisoner left the colony with a pigeon, who had flown to the territory of the correctional facility.

Aliaksandr Mauchanau thanked everyone who supported him in jail.

“I received so many letters that I wasn't able to write answers to all,” he said.
