Lukashenka's propagandist insults Boris Nemtsov

Aliaksei Mikhalchanka was displeased by a Russian politician's calls to western countries to boycott the Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk.

The propagandist showed a nervous reaction to Boris Nemtsov's words during recent conference in Warsaw. The Russian politician called on western diplomats and sportsmen to boycott the tournament that will be held in Minsk in 2014 due to human rights violations in Belarus.

ONT TV channel devoted a special reportage in the programme “Kak Yest” (As it is) to the problem.

“Why don't you, a Russian politician, address your calls to your countrymen? Why did Boris Nemtsov keep silence when Minsk hosted the Track Cycling World Championship? Did this news have a low rating? Why didn't Mr Nemtsov call to backpedal from Belarus? I am afraid the prominent Russian politician didn't hear about this championship,” the programme's host, Aliaksei Mikhalchanka, says with indignation.

The propagandist took offence at the Belarusians who criticise the decision on holding the world championship in Minsk and proposed his ideas of how to protest against the event.

“I especially enjoy the statements on the internet forum like 'I and my brother-in-law don't need the championship'. Why then do you write about it? Is this your usual behavior? For example, you don't need bread and you go to the bakery to tell everyone about it? Speaking seriously, Belarusians deserve to host the ice hockey world championship. Mr Nemtsov has role models. For example, a New Zealand resident, 33, ran naked at the stadium in Sydney during the final match of the Australian National Rugby League. Security guards couldn't catch the streaker smeared with petroleum jelly. We advise opponents of the Minsk championship to try this method during the final game,” the propagandist said.

Lukashenka received the right to hold the Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk in 2009. The event will take place on May 9 – May 25 in Minsk Arena and Chizhovka (Chyzhouka) Arena.

Human rights activists and international organisations stand against holding the sporting event in Belarus due to human rights violations by the Belarusian authorities and presence of political prisoners. Many European and American politicians supported the idea of moving the championship to another country. Some countries already threatened to boycott the championship in Minsk due to repression organised by the Belarusian authorities.
