Hienadz Fiedynich: Show in masks and window dressing instead of fighting corruption

In almost 20 years of rule Lukashenka still has not managed to overcome corruption.

This is how the chairman of the trade union of the workers of radio electronic industry Hienadz Fiedynich commented for the charter97.org web-site on the arrests at Belkoopsojuz.

“I will tell honestly that the corruption problem exists. And not only in construction industry, but in the health care system, in the system of higher education. People know about all this, but so far because of fear not everyone can openly tell, who took what or how built something. Lukashenka started with the fight on corruption 20 years ago, and he finishes with it too. It is very sad, but in 20 years one might have put things in order”, - the trade union leader is convinced.

He emphasized that transparent elections are needed in order to do that, so people could elect those, whom they trust, at all the levels, and dismiss them any moment, if they do not justify the trust.

“But in Belarus only one person ‘justifies the trust’ and dismisses others. So far it happens like that: they take one, two, three people and that is it. Everyone knows that the price of a square meter of accommodation is artificially increased because there are bribes. Such demonstrative shows in masks are necessary for showing that the ruler is not asleep, that he can feel sorry, thank, and send to jail. This is a good PR. But people no longer believe in that. That is why non-governmental organizations should be involved into the fight with corruption and the people themselves. But what they do is not the fight against corruption – it is a window dressing”, - Hienadz Fiedynich believes.

We would remind that today at the moment of receiving another part of bribes KGB operatives detained the chairman of Belkoopsojuz Siarhej Siadzko, the head of Belkoopsojuz’s department of capital construction Dzmitry Kalodziezny, the deputy head of Belkoopsojuz’s department of capital construction Sizuk, and also representatives of commercial firms.
