‘Orthodox atheist’ jacks up his price

The information that Lukashenka would not g to Kiev appeared with the purpose of attracting additional interest to the Belarusian ruler.

This is how a political observer Raman Jakauleuski commented for the charter97.org web-site on the information that Lukashenka would not come to Kiev for the celebrations of the 1025 anniversary of the christening of Rus.

“I do not see any valid reasons for Lukashenka to refuse from the invitation to attend these celebrations. The invitation was obvious, because Russian Orthodox Church considers Belarus, as well as Ukraine, its canonical territories. The celebrations will take place exactly in these tree countries, and it will be the 1025 anniversary of the christening of Kievan Rus, not Moscow Rus”, - the political observer highlighted.

He is convinced that the Belarusian ruler cannot but appear in Kiev, even if he keeps considering himself an ‘orthodox atheist’.

“At the same time I would not rule out that such an information came out in order to cause additional interests towards whether Lukashenka would come to Kiev or not. The impulse for such interest may come from here, from Minsk. The motives for preserving the intrigue until the very last moment are that this way Lukashenka will be spoken about more than would have been otherwise. Especially so in the context that Putin will surely be there, heads of other states, where Orthodoxy is dominant, and also multiple patriarchs of local Orthodox churches. Thus, we would speak more of Lukashenka, than of the Patriarch. In the case, in the end they do not see Lukashenka in Ukrainian capital, this would have greater meaning for the bilateral relations with the presidents of Russian and Ukraine, than the joint celebration of the 1025th anniversary of Kievan Rus”, - Raman Jakauleuski concluded.

We would remind that, according to certain data, the Belarusian ruler will not come to Kiev for the celebrations of the 1025th anniversary of Rus’ christening.
