The organizer of a single picket in Mahilou against Russian aviation bases Mikalaj Hladyshau is being accused of violating the law on organizing and holding mass events.

A respective report was composed against him on 8 July at Lenin police department in Mahilou.

In the morning on 4 July the activist of the United Civic Party Mikalaj Hladyshau for 1.5 hours held a single picket against the deployment of Russian aviation bases in Belarus opposite the building of the city executive committee.

Later on he was detained by a policeman from the Lenin police department. He was obliged to show up at the district’s police station on 8 July as a person, in relation to whom an administrative cause was being pled.

“I am being accused of violating the law on mass events. I do not consider myself guilty, because those are violating the laws and the Constitution of Belarus, who want to deploy foreign military bases on our land. The article 3 of the Constitution says that the people of Belarus are the source of the sovereignty, and no one asked the people about the foreign military bases. In the article 18 it said that our country aims to become neutral, and what kind of neutrality is that when foreign troops will be based here?”, - Hladyshau stated after having left the police department.

According to him, a policeman Jauhen Zahorski, who composed the protocol, did not inform him when the trial would take place, having promised to let know about that in advance. “I warned that I would not go anywhere without a subpoena, delivered to me personally”, - the activist said.

Hladyshau was accompanied to the Lenin police department by the chairman of the Mahilou regional UCP organization Uladzimir Shancau. Other party members and journalists waited for him near the police department’s building.
