Jauhien Vaskovich spent 200 days in penal cell

A political prisoner Jauhien Vaskovich has served another 10 days in Mahiliou prison’s penal cell.

Radio Racyja learnt that from the executive secretary of the organizational committee for the creation of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy Dzianis Sadouski.

“At the end of July Jauhien Vaskovich was put into a penal cell. On 3 August he was released out of there. He was punished with 10 days in a penal cell, he did not even name the formal reason. It is already like they put him to a penal cell once a month according to a plan”, - Dzianis Sadouski said.

Starting from the May 2011, when the opposition activist was sentenced to imprisonment, he had spent around 200 days in a penal cell. According to Dzianis Sadouski, the prison’s administration keeps demanding Jauhien Vaskovich to sign a plea for pardon.

Jauhien Vaskovich was sentenced together with Arciom Prakapienka and Paviel Syramalotau. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison for alleged attempt to set the doors of Babrujsk’s KGB department on fire. In September last year Paviel Syramalotau was released after having signed a plea for pardon addressed to Lukashenka. Jauhien Vaskovich and Arciom Prakapienka refuse to write such a statement.
