Mother visits political prisoner Haidukou

Andrei Haidukou, who serves his term in correctional facility No. 2 in Vitebsk, was allowed to see his mother.

Charter97.org has learnt it from Volha Haidukova, Andrei's mother.

“We were allowed to have a short meeting. I hope another visit will be allowed in a month. It was an ordinary visit and a conversation on the phone through a glass barrier. We talked for two hours. He didn't say anything special, because prison officers listened to the conversation,” the political prisoner's mother said.

The woman added she would like to hug and kiss her son, but it was impossible.

“Nonetheless, I am happy we talked. Andrei is in a good mood. He looks good and even jokes. It was our second meeting. The first one was after the trial and eight months of investigation. As for letters, they are delivered with a week's delay. In winter, we received letters the next day after they were sent. But there are no problems with parcels. I send them every week,” Volha Haidukova said.

On July 1, opposition activist Andrei Haidukou was found guilty of an attempt to establish contacts with foreign intelligence and sentenced to 1.5 years in a correctional colony. The trial was held behind closed doors in the Vitebsk regional court.
