Olga Govortsova enters Tashkent Open semifinal

Belarus’ tennis player Olga Govortsova (world No.113) has advanced to the women’s singles semifinal of the Tashkent Open which prize pot is $235,000.

On 12 September the Belarusian overpowered Romania’s Alexandra Cadantu (71) 6:3, 6:2 in the quarterfinal.

In the first round the Belarusian outplayed Michaella Krajicek (392) of the Netherlands 7:5, 2:6, 6:1 to set up a round 2 date with Donna Vekic (62) who she also defeated 7:6 (7:4), 6:3. Now the Belarusian will encounter either Mandy Minella of Luxembourg (132) or Nastassja Burnett of Italy (172).

In the women’s doubles Olga Govortsova and Mandy Minella have already made it to the semifinal where they will face Ukraine’s Kichenok sisters, Lyudmila and Nadezhda, on 12 September. In the first game Olga Govortsova and Mandy Minella, seeded second at the tournament, overpowered Mihaela Goncova (Slovakia) and Sandra Sharipova (Uzbekistan) 6:2, 6:2 and then defeated the Russian-Ukrainian duo of Arina Rodionova and Marina Zanevskaya 6:7 (3:7), 6:2, 11:9.

The competition in the Uzbek capital will conclude on 14 September.
