‘Poor officials’ got 43% salary raise

Salaries have increased by over 43% in a month in public service.

In July the average salary in the sphere of public service accounted for 7.59 million roubles and increased by 43.1% as compared to June (5.3 million).

For comparison: according to the data, provided by the Belarusian Statistics Committee, the nominal average monthly salary accounted for 5.45 million in July nationwide and increased by 5.6% as compared to June, BelaPAN reports.

Before July the average salary of public officers increased gradually as confirmed by the official statistics data. Thus, in January it accounted for 4.61 million roubles, 4.69 million – in February, 4.83 million – in March, 5.26 million – in April, 4.98 million – in May, 5.3 million – in June.

The significant increase in salary rates in public service is largely caused by personnel cuts among public officers, a high-ranked public officer explained. About 30% of public officers were dismissed. “Accordingly, the salaries of the remaining employees were increased by the same percentage”, - the interlocutor noted.

The government had the initiative to make cuts in public service as far back as in autumn 2011. Due to the devaluation of the national currency the salaries of public officers decreased significantly. In order to stop the outflow of personnel, the government decided to make cuts in order to be able to increase the salaries of the remaining staff.
