Rain forces postponement of Azarenka vs. Ivanovic fourth round U.S. Open tie

Seven out of eight tennis players have already qualified for the women’s singles quarterfinal of the U.S. Open, held in New York.

The last quarterfinalist will be decided in the match where world No.2 Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) will face world No.15 Ana Ivanovic (Serbia). Their fourth-round meeting should have taken place on 2 September but it has been delayed until 3 September because of rain. The winner of the tie will meet Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova (48).

In the other quarterfinal games U.S. Serena Williams (1) will take on Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro (20), Russia’s Yekaterina Makarova (25) will meet China’s Na Li (6) and Roberta Vinci (13) will face Flavia Pennetta (83) in the Italian derby.

In the mixed doubles quarterfinal Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Czechia’s Andrea Hlavackova, seeded 7th, will play against Czechia’s Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski of Poland (seeded fourth).

The last Grand Slam tournament in 2013, the U.S. Open, which prize pot is over $33 million, will conclude on 9 September.
