Request of Baumgertner's lawyer “gets lost”

A request to change pre-trial restrictions for Vladislav Buamgertner, Uralkali CEO who was detained in Minsk, hasn't been delivered to a court yet.

The chief executive officer of Uralkali, the company that recently stopped cooperation with Belarus's biggest enterprise Belaruskali, was detained in Minsk in late August. The Belarusian Investigation Committee charged him with abuse of power and office and took him into custody.

Lawyers say their request was not delivered to Minsk courts on Monday. The Supreme Court of Belarus confirmed this information for RIA Novosti.

Baumgertner's lawyers say the request to change pre-trial restrictions for their client was filed to an investigator last week. Under Belarusian laws, the request is handed in to an investigator who must send it to a court.

The Bar Association of Minsk says that in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of Belarus, an investigator must send a request on changing pre-trial restrictions within 72 hours after receiving it.

The deadline for sending the request to a court has expired. In this case, lawyer can send a complaint to a prosecutor.
