Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Czechia’s Andrea Hlavackova have entered the mixed doubles semifinal at the U.S. Open.

In the quarterfinal game the Belarusian-Czech duo overpowered another international duo of Czechia’s Kveta Peschke and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski (seeded fourth) 6:1, 6:2. In the semifinal Max Mirnyi and Andrea Hlavackova will take on Kristina Mladenovic of France and Daniel Nestor of Canada. Earlier at the tournament the Belarusian-Czech pair saw off Kaitlyn Christian (the U.S.)/Dennis Novikov (Russia) 6:1, 6:1 and the Chinese-Swedish duo Yung-Jan Chan and Robert Lindstedt 6:3, 6:4.

In the women’s singles Serena Williams (1) of the U.S. will take on China’s Na Li (6) in the semifinal. In the quarterfinal the American did not leave a chance to Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro (20) 6:0, 6:0, while Na Li cruised to win over Russia’s Yekaterina Makarova (25) by a 6:4, 6:7 (5:7), 6:2 margin.

On 4 September two other quarterfinal games will take place. Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka (2) will take on Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova (48). The other match will be an Italian derby featuring Roberta Vinci (13) and Flavia Pennetta (83).

Earlier Victoria Azarenka faced a fierce challenge from Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic (15) but managed to snatch a victory in three sets 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. Victoria Azarenka and Daniela Hantuchova faced each other four times, their head-to-head score reading 2:2. This season they met at the start of Indian Wells and back then it was Victoria Azarenka who celebrated a victory 6:4, 6:1.

The last Grand Slam tournament in 2013, the U.S. Open, which prize pot is over $33 million, will conclude on 9 September.
