Appeal against pre-trial restrictions for Baumgertner to be heard on September 6

An appeal by lawyers against pre-trial restrictions for Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner will be heard by Minsk's Partyzanski district court on September 6.

Interfax-West news agency learnt it from Dmitry Goriachko, one Baumgertner's lawyers.

“The court has said the complaint will be heard this Friday,” Goriachko said.

Under the Belarusian Criminal Procedure Code, a complaint against pre-trial restrictions is heard by a court behind closed doors.

Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner was detained in Belarus on August 26. He is charged with abuse of power and office. He may face up to 10 years in prison.

Before the arrest, he arrived in Belarus at the invitation of the country's PM Mikhail Miasnikovich.

The same invitations were sent to chairman of Uralkali's Board of Directors Alexander Voloshin and company's shareholder Suleiman Kerimov.
