Preventive supervision extended for former political prisoner Mauchanau

Aliaksandr Mauchanau thinks it is an act of revenge by the KGB.

A court in Barysau extended the term of preventive supervision over former political prisoner Aliaksandr Mauchanau for 6 months.

“The case was heard by judge Balotau, who had placed me under preventive supervision six months ago,” Mauchanau said to Radio Svaboda.

“There are no grounds for this decision. I have good recommendations from my employer and officers of the criminal inspection. But the term of preventive supervision was extended. It's a gross violation of law,” Mauchanau said.

Answering a question who gains from the court decision, Mauchanau says: “I think the KGB influenced other bodies. I am a pain in the neck for local KGB officers. They will be happy to have me under control.”

On January 9, the court of Barysau found former political prisoner Aliaksandr Mauchanau guilty of violating the rules of preventive supervision. Mauchanau was fined 780,000 rubles.
