NATO Secretary General: Russia accumulates military presence near and within Ukrainian borders

Russia continues to accumulate its military presence both near Ukrainian borders and within its territory.

Jens Stoltenberg, the 13th Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, told about it before the meeting between alliance leaders of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, TASS reports.

“We observe a military build-up near and within Ukraine borders; large scale shipments of Russian advanced weapons to pro-Russian separatists and troops shift”, Stoltenberg said.

However, he pointed out that NATO didn’t intend to give any guarantees of Ukraine and Georgia not joining the alliance. The Secretary General stated that the alliance had no opportunities to provide Ukraine with arms. At the same time he emphasized the organization’s military build-up during 2014.

“We have 50% rise of planes and ships”, NATO Secretary General said and added that military exercises were permanently conducted.

He pointed out that advance party of NATO Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) would be able to take first level readiness for action in 2015.
