Even "mark-up" currency does not appear in currency exchange offices

The foreign currency, promised by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, has not appeared in the currency exchange offices on Monday.

At the end of last week, Nadzeja Yermakova, the Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, assured that the currency in exchange offices would appear at the beginning of the week. It was said that the increased demand, must cover a mandatory bank fee, which turned the current official rate of Br11 000 into Br14 000 per one dollar.

Correspondent of "Radio Svaboda" has to first hand that the promised currency has not appeared.

There are several exchange currency offices on the ground floor of Sky Tower office complex. A few people asked, whether it was possible to buy dollars or euros with 30-percent mark-up, but they heard one phrase in response, that no one had sold money yet. There are no people, willing to sell the currency at Br11 000.

Before, the Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich stated that there was no intention to provide everyone with currency.

Today, the police have reported on the first arrests of foreign currency speculators, who traditionally provoke a financial crisis. Old and new online mediums start offering foreign exchange operations. Well-known website prokopovi.ch, as well as a new dollarnash.соm are among them.
