Workers of Maladzechna steel production plant to celebrate New Year out of money

All of them were told to take an unpaid leave until January 8.

The situation in Maladzechna steel production plant is constantly getting worse over the last few months: there are no orders, people are granted unpaid leaves, late payments. And in the run up to the holidays employees “had been thrown into a fever of joy” by new “surprises”: workers are forced to take unpaid leaves until January 8. Charter97.org was told about that by a reader Ema Zalatukhina through the official Vkontakte page.

“And it is done even though employees had been paid 25% of their wages, and it was done a few days later than usual! The rest of their wages are planned to be paid in January, and it is done now, in the festive season before the New Year celebration!” she informs.

The reader also informs that the majority of the employees of the plant cannot leave their job as they are confined to the hostel of the plant, they had been given a room to live there while the previous Housing Code was in force, and they must have 10 years of uninterrupted employee tenure in order to receive an opportunity to become owners of their housing.

“Rumours about working in more than one position are becoming usual, and people say that the hostel is to be tied down to the utility provider, but no concrete moves are made,” she writes.

“Children do not care about the crisis, they want to have something to eat for the entire month,” workers comment on the situation.
