Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu: Lukashenka has found “scapegoats”

Without structural reform of the country’s economy and the entire political system there is no use in replacing a government with an equally incompetent one.

Such a statement has been made by the leader of “Tell the Truth” civil campaign, a former presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu. He believes that the dismissal of Mikhail Myasnikovich is related to the response to the failure of the financial policy of the country’s leadership, Radio Svaboda informs.

- The words that “the 5th column” and opposition are to blame for everything, do not sound convincing anymore, so the blame has been laid on the government. It’s the year of a goat, and scapegoats have been selected, it’s the Belarusian government headed by Mikhail Myasnikovich. I do not think that he is filed away in storage completely, as he had been a rather devoted servant of Lukashenka for so many years in all his positions. Even when he was downgraded, he was silent and continued bowing down. He would not be thrown on the scrap-heap for sure, but if he would be offered some position, it is to be in a remote place.

- Young people have been appointed to the government, including the post of the head of the government. Could it be considered as a sign of readiness for reform?

- If there would be an announcement real, structural reforms are coming, I would applaud this decision, but I do not think we should expect that. These serious economic reforms are impossible without political reforms, and Alyaksandr Lukashenka cannot agree to that, as he would not retain power in this way.
