The dictator visited the rest-home for elderly and disabled people ahead of New Year's Eve.
“I look and them and think what else we need? We have everything. Belarusians have never had such a good life. I hope that people will understand me,” Lukashenka said. He noted that the post-war years were a hard period for Belarus, when people had to live in difficult conditions and restore the country, BelTA reports.
“Today some people complain that they lack some things. But I insist that if a person wants to live well and to take care of his children and family he has everything for it. What is needed is to work hard,” he said.
Lukashenka noted that certain categories of people abuse alcohol, don't work and thus live poorly: “If one is lazy, does not want to work, does not have proper education, drinks heavily and smokes two packs of cigarettes a day, he cannot be a good worker. Let's count how much he spends on alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. Can such people be rich?”
Lukashenka notes that Belarusians have never wasted money because their life has never been easy. There are many people who don't complain about pensions, work to earn extra money and buy discounted products, he says.
“I often think that our problem is that our people didn't live hard when other brothers [former Soviet countries] were suffering,” he noted and mentioned Ukraine, which is in a “very difficult situation”.
“Everyone should understand that he is more responsible for his own wellbeing than Miasnikovich, Kabiakou, Lukashenka and governors,” the dictator said.
