Activist taken into custody for poster “Putin's Russia, you went mad”

UCP activist Uladzimir Shytsikau got 10 days in custody for picketing.

On March 17, Homel's Savetski district court sentenced activist of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Shytsikau to 10 days in a detention centre for participating in a picket in Homel. The case was heard by judge Siarhei Shaustruk.

BelaPAN has learnt that the activist was found guilty of violating the rules of holding mass events (article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences).

Shytsikau said he wasn't guilty and added he exercised his right of expression.

Members of the United Civil Party held a picket near the Rechytski trading centre in Homel on March 15. Party leader Anatol Liabedzka took part in the picket. The activists were holding posters “Want honest elections”, “March 23 – another non-election” and “Return elections”.

Uladzimir Shytsikau had posters “Putin's Russia, you went mad” and “Gloss of residence can't save dictator”.
