Belarusians and Ukrainians celebrated BPR’s anniversary in Kyiv

At an event in Ukraine’s capital they protested against the presence of Russian troops in the territory of Belarus.

The celebration of the Freedom Day – the anniversary of the proclamation of Belarusian People’s Republic – took place in Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, gazeta.ua reports.

Belarusians and Ukrainians made a procession to European Square, then along Sadova Street and Instytutska Street. There they commemorated the heroes of the ‘Heaven Squad’, including Mikhail Zhyznieuski and Jakau Zajek, and also Vyacheslav Chornovol, who, according to them was a great friend to Belarus and Belarusian nation. Having returned to Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the participants adopted an address to Belarus’ authorities.

“We are protesting against the attempts to cause a quarrel between two close nations of Ukrainians and Belarusians, which could be observed after Russia’s occupation of the Crimea”, - the statement reads.

It also states that the activists stand against Russian military bases in Belarus, the concentration of troops in the South of our country and the threat of a military intervention in Ukraine from Belarus.

“We demand that Belarus’ incumbent authorities did not follow the lines of the Kremlin’s imperial policies and released Belarusian political prisoners Mikalaj Autukhovich, Ales Bialatski, Jauhien Vaskovich, Andrej Hajdukou, Mikalaj Dziadok, Eduard Lobau and others”, - the activists stated.

As the speeches in Maidan finished the action’s participants headed to Belarus’ embassy, where they held a meeting against the presence of Russian military bases in Belarus and in support of political prisoners in our country.
