Participates are invited to gather near the Oktyabr cinema at 16:00 on April 26.
Organisers of the Chernobyl Way rally received a reply from the Minsk authorities allowing to have a march on April 26 along Nezalezhnastsi Avenue and Surhanava Street to the People's Friendship Park.
The application to the Minsk city executive committee was filed by representative of the Chernobyl Way organising committee – Maryna Khomich (BCD organising committee), Illia Dabratvor (Razam solidarity movement) and Aliaksei Yanukevich (BPF Party).
“We will gather from 16:00 to 16:30 in front of the Oktyabr cinema and go along Nezalezhnastsi Avenue and Surhanava Street. We'll have a rally in the People's Friendship Park from 17:30 to 18:30,” Aliaksei Yanukevich from the BPF party told Radio Svaboda.
The applicants wanted to have a march on the route Surhanava Street-Yakub Kolas Street- Kurapaty in the morning.
“They said the route we chose violates article 4.9 of the law on mass events. Demonstrations cannot be held near the buildings with a large number of people,” Aliaksei Yanukevich said.
The Chernobyl Way rally is a traditional action of the Belarusian opposition held in Minsk annually since 1988. After a traditional march, democratic representatives address the participants at a rally. The only exception was 2011, when the Minsk authorities banned a march, but allowed a rally.
