Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus files 15 suits in potash case

Suits to compensate for the damage will be filed against the persons involved in the potash case. Some suits will be filed to Russian courts.

The statement was made by Prosecutor General of Belarus Aliaksandr Kaniuk on Wednesday in Minsk, Interfax reports.

The prosecutor general's office is preparing lawsuits against the natural persons involved the potash case. We will appeal to such notions as lost profits, he said.

About 15 criminal cases were opened, according to Kaniuk. He didn't specify the claim amount, but said it was not less than $100mn.

The prosecutor general noted the Belarusian side was going to file a suit in the case investigated in Russia, under international agreements. He underscored that the suit has good legal prospects in accordance with the existing practice.

I talked to the prosecutor general of Russia. Such suits have been sustained. We want at least a partial compensation for the damage caused to the state, Kaniuk said.

He informed that the prosecutor general's office planned to send all materials of the potash case against the Russian nationals to Russian prosecutors. According to him, Belarusian agencies will investigate only the criminal case against our officials.
