Charter'97 site needs your support

Stop being dummies.

Dear friends!

We have been living together for 16 years. We are watching the events in Belarus together and trying to struggle against the dictatorship, bacchanalia and outrage together. We survived the crackdown on the site in 2010, when founder of charter97.org Aleh Biabenin was killed, when our offices were raided by secret services, when numerous criminal cases were opened against us, website editor Natallia Radzina was thrown behind bars and the staff faced repression.

We have to work abroad after these events. We have faced a new threat – Russia's aggression against its western neighbours. Ukraine was the first to bear the brunt, but Belarus has been suffering from hidden aggression since 1996, when Lukashenka became a dictator, or, in fact, the Kremlin's puppet, through the constitutional coup. He surrendered our country's independence and betrayed all Belarusians.

Our readers are asking us what they can do and how they can help. It's a difficult question, but the main thing is that we should stop being dummies. Every of us can change not only his or her life, but also the future of our country.

We – the Belarusian website charter97.org – try to do our work professionally. Our small team works 24/7 to give you fresh and objective news. In peak moments, we have more than 500,000 unique visitors a day.

Understanding that the future of Belarus is closely related with the developments in Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan and other post-Soviet countries, we do not reduce our activity to covering the events only in Belarus. The website charter97.org has become a regional project.

Yes, we have international support, but it's not enough to develop and strengthen the site, expand the audience and, after all, perform our common mission – liberating Belarus from the dictatorship.

Like you, our readers, we are ready to do our best to liberate Belarus from the dictatorship. If the authorities fear when our number is 500,000, what will happen if our number increases several times? We are confident that your and our dream will come true in this case. The dictatorship will become a mere memory.

We are experiencing a difficult time. We ask you not to be only readers. Let's continue making our site together.

Tell your relatives and friends about our site. Charter97.org is our common site, Belarus is our country, the future is in our hands!

We would be grateful not only for informational, volunteer and technical help, but also for financial aid.
