Vital Rymasheuski: Agreement with LDP discredits UCP

An agreement with Hajdukevich’s party is a step toward liquidation of opposition.

Such a statement has been made by a co-chairman of the organizing committee for creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BHD) Vital Rymasheuski to charter97.org. In this way the politician has commented on signing an agreement between the regional branch of the United Civil Party and the Liberal Democratic Party.

“I hope it was some misunderstanding, and signing the agreement was a private initiative of the leader of the UCP regional branch. The Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus is not a democratic organisation. It is a front, fake, pro-regime party. One of its leaders, the son of the LDPB leader Aleh Hajdukevich, had recently headed the police department of Frunzenski district of Minsk and took part in large-scale crackdown on pro-democracy activists and oppositional parties of Belarus. I do not find it possible to consider them as political partners. They are rather political clowns. Signing such an agreement discredits any political force,” he said.

Vital Rymasheuski stressed that the agreement concluded by representatives of the regional structures of the two parties are a part of the regime’s strategy to put an end to opposition.

“The objective of the authorities is to destroy the real political opposition, which is independent from the regime, its compromising, and creation of fake organisation in their place. One of these decoy organisations is the LDPB. It has proved that by its actions throughout all its existence. One of the ways to liquidate opposition is to substitute it by puppet parties, pseudo-structures, which are presented as democratic opposition. This agreement is one of the steps to implement this strategy of the authorities. It should be clear to any citizen of the country,” Vital Rymasheuski said.
