Semen Semenchenko: Minsk agreements not profitable for Ukraine

Terrorists do not fulfil the agreements reached in Minsk.

The statement was made by Semen Semenchenko, the commander of the Donbas battalion and member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada. He answered the question if the tragedy of Volnovakha would be a ground to review the Minsk agreements, gordonua.com reports.

“A solution to the Donbas situation is fight against corruption, international aid and military decisions,” Semen Semenchenko said. “Volnovakha is the sobering tragedy that allows more people to understand it. I hope the president and the government will understand it, too.

I have been saying from the very beginning that the Minsk agreements, where terrorists are represented by the so called physical persons, are not being implemented. They are not profitable for Ukraine.”

The only positive result of the agreements is the release of a part of captured soldiers, he notes.

“But it seems to have happened not due to the Minsk agreements, but because volunteer battalions managed to block the traffic of goods to the DNR and the LNR,” Semen Semenchenko said. “I mean the story with humanitarian convoys, cars with vodka and cigarettes when we demonstrated our ability to act decisively.

We need to understand that the sooner we use the Budapest format and involve world countries as mediators that could guarantee our security, the sooner we recognise the DNR and the LNR terorrists, the more chances to use pressure from the world community on Russia we have.

We also should understand that we will achieve nothing without military decisions. We hear terrifying stories that enemies will bomb Kyiv, but no one tries to restore the ruined air defence system we used to have.”
