Lukashenka bans raising salaries

The dictator met with the new prime minister and, in fact, forbade companies to raise salaries in the country despite a 40% devaluation of the Belarusian ruble.

“The tendency that took shape in 2014 when the growth of labour productivity outpaced the growth of wages should be maintained,” Lukashenka's press service quotes him as saying.

The measure is an attempt to fulfil demands of international creditors who call not to increase salaries without grounds for political and populist goals, AFN reports.

Last year, productivity growth outran the growth of salaries only in August-September due to a decrease in salaries of state officials and employees of state-run and state-controlled companies. But the step didn't prevent the third in the last five years devaluation of the national currency.
