UN Security Council can hold meeting on Ukraine within month

The issue of Ukraine has been put on this month's agenda at the request of the delegations of the UK and Lithuania.

Journalists learnt it from the Cristian Barros Melet, Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for January, TASS reports.

According to him, the topic was included in the programme of work for this month at the request of the UK and Lithuanian delegations.

“In January, the UN Security Council may hold a meeting on the situation in Ukraine at the request of delegations of the United Kingdom and Lithuania,” the diplomat said.

The UN Security Council held a public meeting on Ukraine more than a month ago, on November 12, 2014. The emergency meeting was held at the request of the US to discuss the situation in Ukraine amid reports about Russian troops in eastern Ukraine.
