Big Win for Tsmoki over UNICS in Kazan

Big Win for Tsmoki over UNICS in Kazan

BC Tsmoki Minsk went off on a good start at the VTB United League 6th season, defeating Russia's UNICS 91-83 on 7 October.

The hosts started with Joaquin Kolom and Valery Likhodey each hitting a three-pointer. Minsk evened the game with the help of Ivan Marash and Garret Stutz. Soon the visitors were up by 9 points. Anton Pankrashov and Keith Langford took turns to bring their team back, but as soon as they evened the score Tsmoki rebounded through Ivan Marash. In the third quarter Garret Stutz, Ivan Marash, Branko Mirkovic and Alexander Kudryavtsev took turns to put Minsk 73-61. In the fourth Justin Gray also added to the visitors' scoring.

His seven points ruined any chance of comeback for UNICS. Garret Stutz and Ivan Marash scored 16 points each, with Branko Mirkovic scoring 17. Belarusian center Artyom Parakhovsky collected eight points in his debut game for Russia's UNICS. The Belarusian champions will next play Enisey in Krasnoyarsk on 13 October. The Dragons will host Zenit St. Petersburg at Minsk Arena on 18 October. This year 16 teams in the VTB United League will play in a round-robin format facing each other twice (at home and away).

The regular season will complete in April 2016. Eight best teams will advance into the playoffs with the winner to be named in June 2016. The VTB United League competitions were won by CSKA in 2009, 2010, 2012-2015, and by Khimki in 2011. Tsmoki Minsk has never made it into the VTB United League postseason. The Dragons' best result was the 7th place in their debut 2010/11 season.
