Andrei Sannikov: Nobel Prize to Svetlana Alexievich is Great Joy for All Belarusians
Andrei Sannikov:

The international recognition of the Belarusian writer is highly needed by our country today.

The leader of European Belarus civil campaign, the candidate for presidency in the elections of 2010 Andrei Sannikov congratulate Svetlana Alexievich on her victory, the Nobel Prize in literature.

“It is a great joy. It is even hard to express in words, what a groundbreaking event for Belarus it is, and how necessary it is for our country in this moment. I congratulate dear Svetlana on the well-deserved highest award. I have been emotionally involved all that time, and I even prohibited myself to guess about the decision of the Nobel Committee. That is why it was surprising today, but it was really pleasant, really giving joy, so that it is difficult to put my feelings in words now. Svetlana Alexievich has influenced many people by her creative work – which is not a court or puppet creative work. She is not afraid to bring up serious problems, to disclose the meaning of phenomena and processes in life, which are sometimes not so pleasant to realize.

We have known each other for a long time, and Svetlana have always been striking me by her deep mind and sharp intelligence. He formulates metaphorically, and at the same way shortly and concisely – a few have a gift for that.

I am very proud that Svetlana Alexievich had written a preface to my book “Belarusian Amerikanka, or Elections under Dictatorship.”

Today, when my country is going through a bad stretch, such an international recognition of a Belarusian writer allows us to cope with these troubles,” Andrei Sannikov said to charter97.org website.
