Homel activist accused of false squeal

Homel activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski is accused of false squeal.

On February 9 Homel civil activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski had a phone call from the police department of Chyhunachny district and was offered to come there to draw up a protocol for false squeal, Viasna Human Rights Center reports.

"On February 7 a friend of mine called me and said that there were motocross participants from Russia and Belarus next to a public and political centre, in Paleskaia Str., and they smashed in the courtyard to torn down a white-red-white flag.

I was called as I live next to that building, and it had to be saved from those bikers from "Russian peace". I immediately called police and ran there. There were no one that day in the building, it was the day off. When I came there was no one but police. As a result they want to make me guilty", Zhukouski said.

Club members of "Night Wolves" and "Russian riders" had the race "Belaya Rus" on the route Moscow - Smolensk - Navapolatsk - Minsk - Babruisk - Homel - Bryansk. The motor race was held from 4 to 8 February. The pilgrims way will go through the holy historical sites of Russian-Belarusian lands. The event takes place in glory of holy warrior monks who performed an act of heroic virtue in the name of the Russian land, and aims to maintain and develop the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, its spiritual traditions and values", the organizers said. The event was held with the support of the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Russian Military Historical Society and the National Welfare Fund.

Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus provides punishment for an offence under Article 17.6 (false squeal) in the form of a fine up to 15 basic units.
