Mogherini: Agreement in Minsk important but not definitive

The EU Foreign affairs head has informed that today the European Union is going to discuss monitoring of the ceasefire regime.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has called the agreement reached after 15-hour talks in Minsk important, but not definitive, liga.net informs with a reference to The Telegraph.

Mogherini has also informed that on February 12 the European Union is unlikely to discuss further sanctions against Russia. The EU is rather to discuss “all means at the EU’s disposal to facilitate the implementation of the agreements.”

It should be noted that a similar opinion concerning the agreements reached in Minsk had been expressed by German Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier: “The today’s agreement is not a package solution, and is not a breakthrough certainly. But Minsk-2 could be a move which would take us away from a spiral of military escalation in the direction of political impulse after weeks of violence. We have confirmed Minsk agreements signed in September. We have established first clear time frame for implementation of commitments,” he said, adding that such a possibility “is worth efforts.”
